- We are actually two days late. Virginia's resolution on independence was approved July 2, 1776. The Declaration of Independence was adopted on the fourth.
- This day has become an excuse for drinking and cookouts. Fortunately, it hasn't quite become as commercialized as Christmas. However, we should probably use the day to reflect on the nation's ideals and history. For example, answer the relatively easy question of how many people have served as President of the United States under the Constitution (hint: the number is NOT 44).
- I'm still curious as to why we have several fireworks displays, including the one in Washington, that are accompanied by the 1812 Overture, a song celebrating Russia repelling Napoleon's invasion.
